What time is it in Koethen? It's PaRtY time!!
Last Tuesday I was invited to attend C's birthday party in Koethen. Her birthday actually was on Friday the week before, but evidently she had decided to throw a party several days later. I gladly accepted the invitation partly because I was curious. Curious of what a "Germany style party" would look like.
Since I've been living in Germany, I've always valued my first experiences. First experience in living on my own, first experience in research, first experience in doing domestic tasks, and now, it is time to experience my first party with my German friends.
It's not that I have enough experience in "Indonesian style party" to make any comparison, since I'm not much of a party animal myself. Well I guess not, when I can hardly keep my eyes open especially after 10 pm. :-P
So, the party was held at CR & N's apartment. I thought that I would have to take a taxi there, but luckily, AN gave me a ride since he had to work in the lab until 8.30 pm that night. (FYI: my apartment is next to the lab).
When we arrived, a lot of people were already there. I only knew the people from the lab, the rest might be C's friends from somewhere else. My professor was also there.
C greeted me and immediately showed me the kitchen to grab some food she had made earlier. She had made this combination of chili, red bean and corn which was good, but to my surprise was really spicy. I had thought that German people could not stand spicy food. I guess I thought wrong. On the table there were several choices of beverages. Beer, red wine, white wine, tequila, and NO, I did not drink any of that! I stayed on the safe side and chose coke.
Overall the party seemed "normal". Just a group of friends hanging out, laughing, goofing around, making small talk, eating, drinking and smoking with music in the background. I talked to some of them, and they were really nice. I knew that English wasn't their main language, but they made an effort anyway just to make a conversation with me. One girl had gone to Australia once, and she was curious about Indonesia and said that she would love to visit someday.
Too bad I didn't bring my camera so I can not upload any picture here. But I noted that my professor took a lot of pictures of us, so maybe I just grab some from him :D
At 10.30 I had to go because J who was taking me home had to leave early. She had to drive all the way back to her house in Halle (30 minutes from Koethen). So I said goodbye and thanked them especially C, for the invitation.
The next morning I heard that the party lasted until 3 in the morning. So I was thinking that maybe the real "Germany style party" that I had been so curious about had only started after I left!! But I could only care less cause I had a great time anyway while I was there, I got home safe and sound and this particular first experience was definitely something to remember. *wink*
Danke fuer die Einladung
Ich hatte eine wunderschoene Zeit
Noch mal, alles gute zum Geburtstag C!!

Party ala Jepang: Makan malem bareng di restoran (secara disini apartemen kecil2, ga mungkin nampung orang banyak), trus dilanjut nijikai (second party, biasanya di kafe yang ada pool dll nya), berhubung ini paket nomikai (dua jam bayar sekian yen boleh minum sepuasnya), gue biasanya minta paket khusus, cuma bayar apa yang gue minum (rugi booo, bayar 2000 yen cuma buat 2-3 gelas jus atau coca cola), trus, kadang2 dilanjut karaoke, berakhirlah jam satu malem....Kalo bareng temen2 deket, biasanya gue veto, haha, nijikai nya ke karaoke, biar bisa pulang sebelum mitnait, maklumlah, gue kan Putri tidur, diatas jam 12 mata susah dibukaaa...

lahhh gw lagi mana pernah tuh parti parti kayak si Ivo selama di Jepun...ngga pnh tuh kenal sm yg namanya nijikai, sanjikai, bla bla bla...abisss ngga ada jasa "babysitter" khusus kalo ada Emak2 yg mau parti2 sihhh...hehehe...
pengertian "parti" di jepun tuh rada aneh kalo buat gw sih...beda bgt sm definisi "parti" yg gw kenal selama ini...parti kok cuma duduk anteng tenang makan di resto...sm org sebelah loe aja blm tentu ngobrol, kalo ngga kenal2 amat...halahhhh!!
